Kaiserschmarrn at Carl von Stahl Haus (1.736m) aka How to hike above Königsee and successfully avoid seeing the apparently stunning lake even once!

I was in Inzell for work reasons, the weather was fantastic so I thought: why not stay till Saturday and have a great hike somewhere! And if already there, why not go to Königsee which is just 50min away and beautiful like no other. So, geplant gemacht and off we went, arriving at Hinterbrand parking on Saturday 11am. Weather was not great, miserable grey and cloudy, with intermittent showers. And Jennerbahn is closed until May 2018 so you partially have to hike through a Baustelle. We did wanted to get to Jenner but didn’t realize the access is fully blocked (at least from Mitterkaseralm site we took).

Anyhow, the rain did stop exactly at 1pm, as the weatherman predicted. And it actually got sunny later on. And the Kaiserschmarrn at Stahlhaus is best I ever had. And Watzmann towering over is a neat view. And we had fun so, all  in all, a great round tour! Except we never, not even once saw the damn lake, not even a glimpse over Königsee and this was disappointing as i haven’t expected not being able to see the lake where we came all the way just to see it – expectations vs. reality 😉
