A mountain I never heard of before but so glad I found it! 🤩

We arrived in Colfosco around 8pm on Friday, without a clear plan what we gonna do next day. All the ideas I had were for Val Gardena and that would mean 40min ride, before 8.30 am as Saturday was a Sellaronda Bike Day, meaning all roads were closed for a day! After looking for a map for a while I noticed Sassongher – cool name, no? Sounds so sassy! I immediately wanted to go there 😁 I managed to convince Marcin and off we went! No drive needed as the trail starts directly by the church in Colfosco. Steep beginning on an asphalt road so not great but views are more than overcompensating. Aaand after 30min we already pass beautiful Edelweiss Hütte and since there was a chance we will be taking different route down, we stopped by for a drink. Weather was great, we had all day and were not in a hurry – perfection 😍

The way up was always up, that’s for sure 😉 Very warm day, few puffy clouds, not many people, all in all: spectacular! The last few meters before the peak plateau are secured with a rope, not difficult but quite helpful. We were not going fast but it took us only just a bit over 2,5h and we were standing by the cross. We only noticed on the photos later how cloudy it actually got! but it was nice and warm and we did our picnic on top.

And then, time to go! Same route back to the saddle but then we decided to go down to La Villa to see something else and take the bus back. Not sure we would do it again: first part of the route was nice but last 2/3 were steep down, narrow path, through the open field and the forest – rather mundane. But, we finally reached the bus stop, had enough time for a well deserved beer and enjoyed the ride back home! The evening was topped with beautiful sunset and the delicious home made pasta 🥰
